This Calf Needs A Name. #WordlessWednesday

by

Last Friday I went to a cattle auction and I came home with a new little heifer calf. Her mom was a Holstein Jersey cross and I’m guessing that her dad was a Holstein. Since Friday I’ve tried out a few names for her but none have stuck. So I’m turning to you guys, help me name my calf! We keep the same first letter for our cow families so we can’t use B, D, G, K, L, N, P, S.

And of course… Whoever has the perfect name for the little girl will get some WI cheese delivered to their door.

To enter, please put your name idea in the comments section!

Oh, but she’s going to grow up to be a dairy cow and I don’t want her to live up to her name!

Chocolate. Or maybe a kind of chocolate like Cadbury or Hershey.

Beat me to it. I was going to say, Xocola (pronounced Sho-co-la) Two hard o’s and a soft a. It’s nahuatl, and the original word for chocolate. CihuaXoco-atl (The bitter water woman) For the Aztecs called their drink made with it, Xoco-atl or Bitter water. Sweeteners weren’t used.

I’ve had a couple calves that looked similar and they were Brown Swiss and Holstein crosses. Cute calf!

She was actually born during the auction! Her mom was gorgeous and was one of the top cows sold that day. If I had the funds I would have come home with the pair of them. I’ve had a few SwissSteins, they were great cows but had horrible repro issues.

Because of where she was born and where she will grow up, ‘THANKFUL’ would be an appropriate and deserving name.

Elsie the cow was a Jersey, and the brand for Borden, and you live in Lake Mills so how about Elsie Mills or just Elsie. That is also the name of my hometown in Michigan.
